WWE ran a truly bizarre angle on Friday Night Saints SmackDown this week, with Sami Zayn massacring The Gingerbread Man just one week after stealing his identity. This is how we are getting to a rematch between Zayn and Trick Williams at the upcoming Backlash premium live event next weekend in Tampa, Florida.
Because if murdering a Gingerbread Man whose identity you stole doesn’t merit a United States championship match, I don’t know what does.
Even better, they are going to use the final episode of SmackDown before the aforementioned PLE to hold a funeral for Gingerbread Man. We are well and truly past WrestleMania and barreling straight into the summer, folks.
On the women’s side, Tiffany Stratton defeated Giulia for the U.S. title and the latter wants her rematch. She’s not going to get it, at least not yet, but Kiana James, still running with Giulia, is going to step up to the plate, per Stratton’s own request. We’ll see if she ends up being a stepping stone or they use this to further discord between the two friends.
Rounding out next week’s card: GUNTHER, now with his sights set on WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, will make an appearance, presumably to explain himself. Plus, Fatal Influence takes on Rhea Ripley & Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss in a six-woman tag team match.
