After issuing several recent retractions, apologies, and clarifications for recent statements made online or in interviews (that came about because of something he posted online), Ric Flair yesterday (April 29) asked the wrestling community to give an old man some grace.
Flair tweeted:
I have apologized, and I have retracted statements. I have made assumptions that are incorrect. I acknowledge everything that I have said. Can we just wake up tomorrow & let Ric Flair be Ric Flair?
I am 77 with a heart condition and nothing is ever guaranteed. Let’s just all be at peace! If you look at social media, people love to attack every celebrity online without using their real name.
I’m Ric Flair. Take me for who I am. The people who know me know how hard I’ve worked my entire life to achieve my level of success. That is not up for debate. Thank you for everything! Please let me wake up tomorrow and have my social media screen be only positives. I’m always going to be a cowboy! wooooo!

Which, fairplay, Ric. I can only speak for myself, but I think a few of the other wrestling fans who’ve doing some combination of hanging our heads, rolling our eyes, and/or laughing our asses off at your behavior the past 5-10 years would agree with me: We’d be happy to let Ric Flair be Ric Flair, if Ric Flair would only stop actively making us forget why we were ever Ric Flair fans in the first place.
This wasn’t a bad way to start, either. When The Nature Boy got up this morning, he decided to post Dwayne Johnson giving one of his pro wrestling Mount Rushmores*, and thanked The Rock for putting him on it:
Thank You To @therock For Always Showing Me So Much Respect! It’s Definitely A Mutual Feeling. You’re The Best! WOOOOO! 😎
The best part about Naitch’s Instagram Reel is Charlotte Flair’s comment on it. I know I’m not the only one who’s suspected Ric receives a phone call from one or both of his daughters before his retractions and apologies arrive online. I’ll take this as tacit confirmation:
The only post from you I approve of lately…..
Okay, Naitch. We’ll let you be Ric Flair, if you can stop stressing out your family every time you post. Deal?
* There have been a few over the years, and we probably missed several. Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Steve Austin are constants though.
