The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has been going strong for nearly 50 years, with TV series, movies, manga, novels, and video games introducing hundreds of iconic mobile suits. And with the film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe set to release in U.S. theaters on May 15, we figured now is the perfect time to answer one big question: What is the best Gundam of all time?
If you’re not already aware, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe is the second chapter of the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway trilogy. It follows the anti-government group MAFTY, led by protagonist Hathaway Noa, in its revolution seeking to overthrow the Earth Federation. Hathaway will have to grapple with questions like when revolutionaries become terrorists, when justice becomes extremism, and when war is worth the trauma it leaves in its wake. And as always, it features some epic mobile suit battles.
To crown the definitive best Gundam ever, we created a March Madness–style bracket where you can vote for your picks to advance. With so many Gundams to choose from, we had to limit the field to 16 of what we consider the best of the best. But it’s up to you to determine which one is crowned the ultimate champion.
Gundams will face off in 1v1 matchups, with the one that gets the most votes moving on to the next round. All the matchups of each round will be done at the same time, and you can vote through the polls at the bottom of this page or on IGN’s Instagram stories. We’ll total all the votes, the winners will advance, and we’ll update the polls based on the results. If you come back to this page or our IG stories on the dates listed below, the polls will be updated to the latest round and you can vote again.
