Lucha Libre AAA is in the market for an authority figure. Marisela Peña announced that the new general manager will be named during the live TV episode on May 23 from Mexico City. As with any high-profile sports job, speculation comes with who could be candidates.
AAA has had a power vacuum since the WWE era of ownership began. Latin Lover previously occupied that role on screen, but he has quietly moved on in the lucha libre world. The general manager discussion began last week when Dorian Roldan pleaded the case to his mother. Dorian believes that AAA is losing opportunities, such as the value of free exposure at WrestleMania had if Hijo del Vikingo won the WWE Intercontinental Championship from Penta. He blames Mini Vikingo on interfering to ruin that idea. Dorian feels that AAA is chaotic without leadership. He has the vision and education to take AAA to the next level. That’s why he should be named general manager. Marisela told her son that she would think it over. For those that don’t follow AAA storylines, Dorian is a heel manager at the moment, so this feels more like a play for power than a noble act.
On the most recent episode of AAA TV (Apr. 25, 2026), Marisela made the announcement that AAA will name a new general manager. She will look at candidates for the important role to take AAA to new heights.
With that said, a handful of candidates immediately come to mind:
- Dorian Roldan: Dorian has had on-screen and off-screen authority roles in AAA, so the fans know what they get with him. Currently, it would be an abuse of power in a heel manner. I’d say this pick is unlikely at the start. I think it’s too soon to taint the new general manager role with a rudo vibe. Plus, it robs the story down the line of Dorian trying to steal power, such as through a match with proxy wrestlers.
- Undertaker: The bookerman of AAA would be huge star power. Imagine Undertaker rolling back his eyes every time he makes an important decision. It would be funny to see Undertaker pull a page out of Teddy Long’s playbook for spur of the moment matches. The question would be who becomes the new standard to step in for the phrase, “One-on-one with the Undertaker.” Holler, playa. I don’t think Undertaker gets the GM role. He doesn’t seem eager to be back on screen, and it’s probably a better choice to go with someone who can converse fluidly in Spanish for live promos.
- Rey Mysterio: The legendary luchador makes a ton of sense as the new general manager. The drawback would be that Mysterio is still an active wrestler. He could have a AAA mega title reign in his future before he wraps up his career.
- JBL: If there is one man focused on making money, it is JBL. There was a previous storyline about JBL trying to buy AAA to take the company global, but that was a puff of hot air and never reached its full potential. JBL probably doesn’t have the right temperament to be the new GM. He could be easily seduced by Las Toxicas.
- Vampiro: This would be an interesting legend pick. Vampiro closed up his AAA retirement tour in 2024. Vampiro is beloved by the fans, and he has experience in authority figures roles for AAA.
- Konnan: Health would be the big question about Konnan. He’s also abused power on screen for so many years pulling in invading factions for hostile takeovers. If Konnan played it straight, he could be a strong figurehead.
- Danhausen: He paints his face, and he likes monies. Sounds like a recipe for success.
- Bad Bunny: This would be a pie in the sky idea. The majority of scenes would have to be filmed away from the arena due to his busy schedule.
Add in the list of legends, such as Blue Demon Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Negro Casas, Cibernetico, and so forth. Looking at the list of management, Savio Vega and Chavo Guerrero Jr. are current producers.
