Southwest Airlines cardholders now eligible to earn bonus points on Lyft

Chase’s long-running partnership with Lyft is getting an upgrade.

Southwest Airlines cardholders can now earn up to 5 points per dollar spent on Lyft rides (through Dec. 31, 2027).

Even better, this perk is effortless. Unlike with other Chase cards that earn bonus points on Lyft, no activation is required for this benefit. All you need to do is add your Southwest card as your default payment method in the Lyft app.

Here’s what Southwest cardholders need to know.

Earning bonus points on Lyft purchases with Southwest cards

“No activation required,” “no minimum rides” and “no spending cap” will be music to the ears of any Southwest cardholder who prefers benefits that are as easy to use as possible.

It’s important to note that not all Southwest cards will earn the same number of points per dollar spent on Lyft.

Here’s the breakdown (all cards earn bonus points on Lyft through Dec. 31, 2027):

The information for the Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

It makes sense that Chase would scale the number of points earned per dollar spent with the cards’ annual fees. That said, it’s important to consider whether your Southwest card is the best choice for Lyft purchases, based on how many points per dollar spent you’ll earn.

You may be able to earn more rewards on ride-hailing services with another card. For example, if you have the Southwest Plus, the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card (see rates and fees) would be a better choice for your Lyft spending. That’s because it earns 5 points per dollar spent on Lyft, over the Southwest Plus’s 2 points per dollar spent (activation required for the Sapphire Preferred; through Dec. 31, 2027, for both cards).

Bottom line

If you hold a Southwest card, now’s the time to check how many points you can earn per dollar spent on Lyft. If the earning rate is higher than any of your other cards or you’re dedicated to earning Southwest Rapid Rewards points right now, make sure you set your Southwest card as your default payment method. Otherwise, you’ll lose out on your bonus rewards.

It remains to be seen whether Chase will extend Lyft benefits to additional cards, but this is promising news.
