WWE broadcaster Megan Morant announced on Sunday that she has qualified for the 2028 Olympic Trials.
A former NCAA Division 1 athlete, Morant has taken part in multiple marathons in recent years. In 2023, she miraculously ran the New York City Marathon 15 weeks after donating a kidney to a former boss’s wife.
Morant works as a backstage correspondent on SmackDown, as well as co-hosts the WWE Now podcast with Sam Roberts. Among her accolades in WWE is that she is Becky Lynch’s favorite commentator.
“Holy crap! I qualified for the Olympic Trials,” Morant posted in her announcement on Instagram. “I remember watching the Olympic Trials Marathon on NBC in 2020. A record number of women qualified to compete, and while watching, this crazy idea crossed my mind: what if you just tried?”
She continued: “I was a has-been. My successful high school running career led to a DI college scholarship, but in college, things never really panned out. Deep down inside, I knew I still had untapped potential in running, but I often thought: who cares? What’s the point?”
Morant then detailed how she shifted to her broadcasting career, moving around the country for different opportunities. She said that at first her return to running was casual, and she signed up for “marathon after marathon because it felt like the right thing to do.”
“When it came to training and doing marathon specific workouts, again I thought: what’s the point. Who cares,” she wrote.
Her feelings shifted when watching the 2020 Olympic Trials and she saw a vast array of “women toe the line to chase a dream bigger than themselves.”
Morant said at that moment, it “clicked in my brain” that she could have a career, be a mother, and still be a highly competitive athlete at the same time.
“I could write a novel on the journey it took to get here, but this post is already long enough and if you’re still reading, I love you!” Morant wrote, adding, “For now, I’m gonna go drink a beer, celebrate with my little family, and probably cry a whole lot more. WE FREAKING DID IT!”
Cageside Seats wishes Morant all the best in the Olympic Trials.
