“All I Think About Is Basketball”: Britney Spears Makes Surprising Michael Jordan & Kobe Bryant Confession

Before she became one of pop music’s biggest stars, Britney Spears was a point guard on her high school basketball team at Parklane Academy in Mississippi, a detail she revisited in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me. That early love for the game resurfaced this week, when Spears took to social media to reveal her childhood bedroom wasn’t decorated with the posters anyone might expect from a future pop icon.

In an Instagram post, Spears described a childhood defined far more by basketball than by typical girlhood décor.

“As a young girl, I never had a Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, a Barbie, or celebrity posters,” she wrote. “I only had Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant posters. I was a tomboy.”

Spears connected that tomboy identity directly to her early stage wardrobe. She noted that her comfort with traditionally masculine-coded interests extended well into her performing career.

Britney Spears closed the post by talking about her past and present self. “It’s just interesting how I wear dresses now and all I think about is basketball!!!” she wrote, a line that captured the same playful tone that has defined much of her return to social media since 2023.

Before her music career began, she actually played organized basketball as a point guard at Parklane Academy, a private school in McComb, Mississippi. The sport was part of her upbringing well before Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant became posters on her wall.

The post also fits a pattern that’s defined Spears’ social media presence since she returned to Instagram following the end of her conservatorship. Her captions regularly swing between playful fashion commentary and unexpected personal reflection, often delivered in the same exclamation-heavy style that accompanied this basketball post.

For an artist who has used the platform to reveal everything from new creative projects to glimpses of her private life, connecting her current dress-filled aesthetic back to a childhood obsession with Jordan and Bryant is simply the latest example of Spears using Instagram as an open diary.

Between the rediscovered basketball posters and her own point guard history, Spears’ latest post adds an unexpected athletic chapter to a public image built almost entirely around music and fashion. Whether it’s a passing reflection or a genuine signal that basketball is back on her mind, the post offers a rare glimpse of the tomboy she says she once was, sandwiched between the glittering outfit reveals fans have come to expect from her.
